Week of Jan. 18, 2009
January 18, 2009, begins the Week of Christian Unity. The dates of January 18-25 have been the traditional dates used since 1908 in the northern hemisphere. The title tells us the focus of the week. In preparation for this week I began to read the texts for Sunday of the week. Perhaps you would join me in a daily reading of these passages from Holy Scripture.
They are: Ezekiel 37:15-19, 22-24a
I Corinthians 3:3-7, 21-23
John 17:17-21
I choose not to share my thought on the readings at this time. Rather I would ask you to read and reflect on them, asking the Holy Spirit to open eyes to see, ears to hear, hearts to receive and lives to appropriate the scripture.
On another note, we are hosting a prayer breakfast on January 19, 2009, in our fellowship hall. This will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a light breakfast. It is the first event in a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration in our community. I hope you will join in this prayer service.
