June Rollins' watercolor: view From My Window A Note From Rob ...
Week of October 25, 2009

The Gospel lesson this week is about a blind man whose sight was restored by Jesus. When I began to reflect on the scripture, I thought, where am I blind? That brought me to the diagram above. The Johari window was developed in 1955 as a way of determining how groups might work more effectively as the known and unknown, seen and unseen was in each person’s life.

I would ask us to focus our attention to the part that is unknown. Actually there are 3 parts of the window that deal with blindness or that which is unknown or unacknowledged.

The goal of a more healthy life is to have the largest arena the one that is known to one’s self and others. Conversely, an unhealthy life is one in which blindness and ignorance dominates the majority of one’s life.

Please read the Gospel lesson and join me in self-examination of the blind spots and uninformed places in our lives which separate one from God, neighbor and self.

I believe the same Jesus who healed the blind long ago can still improve our sight and insight.
