June Rollins' watercolor: view From My Window A Note From Rob ...
Week of February 21, 2010

Well, back in the wilderness. The first Sunday in Lent has us following Jesus in to the wilderness for 40 days. By now you know Lent is a time of self-reflection and self-denial as we prepare for Easter.

The wilderness times for Jesus and the time of preparation for the Christian have always been linked with a time of Spiritual growth. It is as if we acknowledge that it is in the wilderness times that we have the room and opportunity to grow.

It seems we are forced to grow in the trials of life more than we embrace the need for growth in the triumphs in life.

Lent is a self-imposed wilderness time apart from the distractions in life so we may focus on the need to admit, confess and address those areas in our lives which may be hindering our growth as followers of Jesus.

So we follow Jesus into the wilderness. I would submit that each wilderness will be unique and particular to each individual and as universal as human sinfulness and temptation.

I hope you will join us in worship during the season of Lent as we follow Jesus through Lent and on to Easter. I hope to share the journey with you.
