A Note From Rob ... through Wilma...
June 5, 2010 has been set as the date for United Methodists across the Western North Carolina Conference to move out
beyond the walls of their churches into their communities, offering signs of love and hope through service on one
single day. This is the dream - To make an IMPACT in the community.
Working with Grace Senior Services, we have identified persons who needed assistance. I am not sure what I
expected the needs to be, but they are simple. One 96 year-old lady needs caulking around her bathtub and windows.
One person asked for a hand rail to help her go up and down her steps. When Rob, Joe and Lonnie went to the home
to assess the need, they determined that what is really needed is a rail around the porch for safety reasons. Most of the
requests are for simple house cleaning and window washing. There are other basic home repair requests.
Rob, Joe and Lonnie are still looking for anyone who will help with the home repairs. This repair work will be done
throughout the week. Some of the Circles Leaders have volunteered to help with the house cleaning. I still need help
with the house cleaning.
The other opportunity available for the Conference is in preparing the “Million Meal Mission.” You can go online at
www.millionmealmission.org to register to help assembly meals. The dates at Mineral Springs UMC, Mineral
Springs, N.C., are June 2-5, 2010.
I became a missionary after volunteering first to go to India with a volunteer mission team and serving with several
volunteer mission teams. As a missionary I have worked with many volunteer teams from throughout the United
States. The one common thread with all has been the impact of personal contact with the people they were helping.
Immediately seeing the difference the work you do has on an individual changes how you see missions. The teams I
have had the privilege of working with ranged in ages from 15 to 80; all made a difference.
Are you ready to make an impact on our community?
