A Note From Rob ... through Charles ...
This Sunday will be the final service in the sanctuary for the summer months. We will move to the Chapel next
week, June 13, and will remain there until the work in the sanctuary is completed and the new organ is installed,
sometime around the first of September. This will be a chance for us to “regroup” as a congregation in a new more
relaxed setting. But ... what else is new?
In thinking about summer worship, the idea of moving the service to an earlier time has been discussed and sanctioned
by the Worship Work Area. The proposal, which would be only for the summer at this time, is to move worship to
10:30 a.m., with Sunday School beginning at 9:30 a.m. There are several reasons to do this: the earlier time will allow
extra time for family afternoon activities, to go out of town, or to get to the “restaurant of choice” a bit earlier to beat
the crowds. These are superficial reasons, to be sure, but why not give it a try – we might find out we really do like it!
On a deeper level, it is also a way of saying to the community and to our congregation that we are striving to reach out
in an effort to provide an option for Sunday worship for those who might find it inviting.
The eleven o’clock hour, which is our customary worship time, is based on the old agricultural life-style. This dictated
that farm chores should be done before any other activities could take place, so 11:00 was deemed the “right” time for
worship. Few, if any, of us now must adhere to that requirement.
Worship can be at any time, and in fact we may try an alternate time sometime this summer. The main point is to be
flexible, open to new things, and not remain entrenched in something simply because “That’s the way we’ve always
done it.” Our world changes daily, for better or worse, and we change too, whether we realize it or not.
So, come join your church family each Sunday in the Chapel at 10:30, beginning June 13. The setting and time might
be a little different, but our God will always be the same, no matter where or when! See you in Church!!!
