A Note From Rob ...
Have you ever regifted? That is when a gift is given to an individual and then the individual gives the gift to another person later on. In some circles it is considered poor taste. It can certainly be embarrassing if the original gift is regifted to the original giver.
I want to suggest that in some ways to regift is what we are called to do as Christians. One of the basic tenants of Christianity is that we are gifted people. The Greek word Charismata, gifted, is used to describe the gifts given by the Spirit of God.
In that sense all Christians are Charismatic as we are filled and gifted with and by the Holy Spirit. However, there are many gifts through the One Spirit. The Church, that means you and me, are called to regift so we might be who God has called and gifted us to be.
One meditation is that we can be a more effective church if we use the gifts God has given us. But before we can give, use these gifts we might need to identify them.
On Sunday, September 26, I am asking us to meet in the Fellowship Hall from 9:30 am to about 11:30 am for a Spiritual Gifts Workshop. During that time we will study the gifts of the Spirit, discover our higher gifts and worship the God, the giver of these gifts.
For those who do not attend Sunday School it will mean coming earlier. For those who attend Sunday School it will mean changing your schedule on that Sunday. For those who worship infrequently or on special occasion, this is an important time in our personal and corporate lives.
Therefore, I am asking each and all to make this time and Sunday September 26 a High Priority. It will good for each individual and First UMC. It is an important step in our future ministry, our regifting, here in Wadesboro and beyond.
