A Note from Rob ...
It is difficult to understand the cultural differences that over 2,000 years and 6,000 miles bring. So, in some ways, we
can only use our minds to try to understand the dilemma the faced Joseph and Mary when Mary became pregnant.
A song by the country music singer Brad Paisley gives us a bit of an emotional view from the perspective of the son of
a single mother. This week as I contemplate Joseph’s decision to marry Mary this song gave me a different look at the
life decision Joseph and Mary faced.
Here is a portion of that song:
When a single mom goes out on a date with somebody new
It always winds up feeling more like a job interview.
My momma used to wonder if she'd ever meet someone
Who wouldn't find out about me and then turn around and run.
Lookin' back all I can say about all the things he did for me
Is I hope I'm at least half the dad that he didn't have to be
Yeah, I hope I'm at least half the dad that he didn't have to be
Because he didn't have to be. You know he didn't have to be.
All around us are single parents who bring what some might consider extra baggage but who are really blessings.
Imagine how the story might have unfolded if Joseph saw Jesus as baggage and not a blessing.
The Christmas story is incredible; one miracle after another. This season, let’s be a part of the miracle, too. Anyone
have room in their heart for a pregnant woman, a trusting fiancé and a baby about to come into this world?
