Notes from Rob…
The scandal was full blown. One person turned to whisper to the one beside of them as Mary walked by. The older man to whom she was engaged walked beside her. Their gait became slower with each passing month.
Mary and Joseph were the talk of the town, but not in a good way. A wedding was planned, but what kind of dress: a white one, a maternity choice? Mary's father was relieved that Joseph would still marry his daughter and she would not be ostracized for life, damaged goods.
Sometimes we forget that God came to be with us in all the pain and disgrace of the world. Many might look down on a couple in the same situation today, especially among good church folk.
But what if we saw the Holy Family when we see single mothers, single dads, children who were born outside of a marriage. How would that help us see them?
Matthew 25 reminds us that when we treat the least in society as if they were Jesus (and I add like Jesus' family) we are treating him in the same manner.
vOne of the important aspects of the season is that God came to be with us, wherever we are and whoever we are. In that way, we are all the same...in need of a Savior.
"And you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people."
Wishing you Christmas Love,
