Open Doors for Children

Our Open Doors Center for Children is a vital part of the outreach ministry at First UMC! Both through the Week School and More at Four have opportunities for you to help in this great ministry.

Our More at Four program has received a five-star rating from the N.C. Department of Child Development. This is the highest rating that may be achieved, and is a credit to the teachers and directors of our More at Four program, and also to you, the congregation, for your great support of
our church's efforts to reach out into the community.

In the More at Four class you could
  • Read a story to the children,
  • Come help plant flower in the garden,
  • Save paper towel and tissue rolls and plastic water bottles for crafts,
  • Come help with an arts or crafts project,
  • Provide new or gently used children's books for the class,
  • Or, just come visit the children!
For the Through the Week School
  • Come read a story
  • Provide bulk snacks, such as graham crackers, Ritz crackers, animal crackers, vanilla wafers, Cheerios or other low-sugar dry cereal, Triscuits, Goldfish or cheese crackers,
  • Contribute money to the snack fund for fruit, juice and cheese.
Our children are our most precious resource! Come be a part of this important time of their lives!
