to serve the children of Anson County.
United Methodist Women Annual Meeting will be held at
Peachland UMC on Saturday, August 28. The hands-on project for the meeting will be
school supplies for our children. Items needed include Ziploc sandwich bags, Kleenex, book
bags, Germ-X or Purell, Clorox or other disinfectant wipes, paper towels, crayons, pencils,
notebook paper and construction paper. Please support the children and their teachers, and
support your UMW by attending the meeting!
Yard Sale – September 25
Our big summer yard sale is scheduled for September 25, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the church. You may still donate household items, knickknacks, books, big or small furniture, or other items (no clothing) to the sale. Bring any donations to the church, or call the church office and we can make arrangements for pick-up. Proceeds from the sale will go the parsonage fund and the organ fund.
The Organ Renovation is Near Completion!
Word from the Zimmer Company is that the organ will be installed beginning on September 13! This will be a three week process – one week to install, and two more weeks for voicing and finishing; we will be moving back to the sanctuary on October 3. On October 17, there will be a dedication service during the worship hour, with a recital that afternoon to introduce the organ to the congregation and community. October 31 will be a Jubilee Celebration/Homecoming Sunday. We will keep you up-to-date as these dates draw closer.
A slide show of the organ progress is posted here. Check it out!
The watercolor by June Rollins of First UMC is on display in the hall outside the chapel.
Drop by to see the painting, which will later hang in the church. All proceeds from the sale
of prints will go to the organ fund.
Remember the church as you travel and rest this summer.
We are always open on Sunday.
See you in church!

Thanks to the Nurture Committee (Barbara, Carol, Gail and Krista) for the great Birthday Bash on August 15. A great time was had by all!...Sunday, August 22, was our highest attendance for the summer, with 95 present for worship. We are almost outgrowing the chapel for these summer months! Let’s make it even better once we move back to the sanctuary...It was good to see several visitors on Sunday morning, and also those who were able to return to church after being away for several weeks. Come to church – it’s always good to see YOU!...Thanks to Jeff Boothby for delivering the message on August 22. The next two Sundays will be Monty High from the Gideons on August 29, and Rebekah Shuford, a ministerial student at Pfeiffer on September 5. Please support these speakers as they share with us. Rob will return to the pulpit on Sept. 12...The Believers Class is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Anson Crisis Center. There will be boxes available in the hall outside their classroom for food items only in boxes, jars or cans. Please, no drinks or toiletries for this drive. The drive will continue at least through September.
Thanks for sharing the new and good in your life with the church family.

OPPORTUNITIES
The Flower Calendar for 2010 is posted on the bulletin board in the education hall. You
may reserve as many Sundays throughout the year as you wish. Please write your
bulletin information on the paper below the list and place in the folder.
Convert your old LP records to compact disc! The radio station has some new
equipment which is able to copy your old phonograph records to CD. The cost of each
album transferred to CD is $10.00. See Jim Bruney for more information, or call the
church office. This is a great way to preserve your favorite “golden oldies”
so that you can hear them anytime!
The recycling project for used inkjet printer cartridges continues. Any cartridge about the size of the palm of your hand or smaller, may be recycled. The company no longer accepts the individual mail-in envelopes; please bring your empty cartridges to the church to be sent for recycling.
We need volunteers to assist in keeping the church nursery on Sunday. According to our policy, two adults are needed in the nursery at all time. Marissa Hardison is the regular attendant; if you can help please let the office know.
Please check the list you were mailed to see if you are scheduled to be an usher or a greeter during the month. If you cannot serve, please call someone else on the list to arrange for a substitute. Ushers should call Elwood Green if you cannot serve; all others use the list.
The Life Line fund, Food Collection program and the TV ministry -- are still in operation. These are active ministries totally funded outside of the church budget. Please continue your support of these extensions of our ministry into the community.
We need your help in up-dating the newsletter! If there are additions or deletions
to the prayer list, please let the church office know either by a phone call,
or give a note to Charles or Betty Ann. Throughout the year,
you may request additions or deletions to the list at any time.
Also, please let us know of any changes in email addresses for the newsletter,
or of anyone who you would like to add to email. Anyone who is now receiving the newsletter
by regular mail may convert to email, and help the church save some money on printing and postage costs.
Email is free – all it costs us it about 30 seconds to add a name to the list.
The deadline for information for the weekly newsletter is Tuesday before noon of each week.
REMINDER: When you give a memorial or honor gift to the church, please indicate on the check or note which fund you want your gift to go to. If not designated in writing, it will go to where the family has indicated or to the Beautification and Improvement fund, in accordance with the memorial gift policy.
